On Feb. 9, the Brisbane, Calif.-based appears to have satisfied its stomach grumblings. Tapping into the Ning technology, Glam Media launched Foodie.com, a social network devoted entirely to those who share a common love of exquisite cuisine.

Glam Media launches social network for food lovers

The launch of Foodie.com is the first result of Glam’s September purchase of Ning, an also-ran social networking service started by Netscape creator Marc Andreessen. Glam acquired the company for $150 million, according to people familiar with the matter. Arora said he expected to create more specialized social networking sites devoted to specific areas of interest this year using the Ning technology.

Keep Britain Tidy now has almost 9,000 followers on Twitter and 2,000 on Facebook. The organisation has encouraged its Twitter followers to take photos of litter in their areas and share them as a Twitpic. It has also launched a closed Ning forum where people can turn conversation and debates into action.
