A Few Administrative Updates

We wanted to share with everyone a few administrative updates we’ll be rolling out in the coming weeks. This is one of the less exciting release updates, but there are still a few important things we want you all to know about.

Premium Services

We are raising the price of the “Control the ads” premium service to $24.95/month. We are also raising the price of the “Remove Ning promotion links” premium service to $24.95/month for new networks only. There will be no changes to the “Use your own domain” and “Get more storage and bandwidth” premium services.

THIS WILL ONLY IMPACT NEW NETWORKS CREATED AFTER NOVEMBER 1ST. IF YOU HAVE A NETWORK TODAY THERE WILL BE NO IMPACT ON THE PRICING OF YOUR PREMIUM SERVICES, EVEN IF YOU PURCHASE PREMIUM SERVICES FOR YOUR NETWORK AFTER NOVEMBER 1ST.

This means that if you have a network today and after November 1st buy, say, the option to “Control your ads”, then it will be $19.95/month. If you created a network after November 1st, then the option to “Control your ads” will be $24.95/month on this new network.

This is the first time we have raised our premium services pricing. We launched premium services in December 2005 and haven’t touched them since. Furthermore, we don’t expect to make anything but the occasional modest update going forward. When we do make updates, we will give you advanced warning like we’re doing now, even though in this case we are not raising prices for existing networks, only new ones.

So, even if you haven’t purchased premium services but have a network today, your price for “Control the ads” or “Remove Ning promotion links” when you do purchase them will be $19.95/month and $7.95/month, respectively. However, if you create a new network after November 1st and want to purchase these services for this new network, you’ll pay $24.95/month to control the ads and another $24.95 to remove the Ning promotion links.

Again, this shouldn’t have any impact on existing Network Creators or existing networks.

Terms of Service/Privacy Policy

Next week, we will also be rolling out an updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. These updates are not substantial and simply address new features and functionality that have been added or modified since the existing Terms of Service and Privacy Policy were put into place in 2006 and 2007. You can preview the new agreements here.

This new Terms of Service and Privacy Policy will be rolled out across the platform in conjunction with our OpenSocial release on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. Pacific. There will be a new checkbox for you to acknowledge them — just like you do on other services — when you sign into your network.

We’re happy to answer questions about either of these updates here or via the Ning Help Center.
