Announcing the Ning Appathon

Following last month’s Ning Apps launch, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be holding a special developer event called the Ning Appathon at our offices in Palo Alto, CA on Thursday, November 5th from 6pm-10pm.

The event will include:

  • An overview of Ning Apps and our OpenSocial implementation
  • Presentations from existing Ning Apps developers
  • A chance to meet members of the Ning Engineering and Developer Advocacy teams
  • Free pizza and beer : )

Most importantly, we’ll be announcing the start of a week-long app development competition which will include awards for new applications in addition to ported applications. Prizes and details will be revealed at the event.

To learn more and join the fun, RSVP here. Hope to see you there!

    Hi Andrew,

We will indeed be videotaping parts of the event, and we’ll be announcing more details of the competition after the event. Stay tuned!

    Hi Nick,

it would be great, if you would focus on apps, which allow real revenue share with network creators. Are there more plans in this field, than “just” virtual gifts? I am relly looking forward to this. Beside that thousands of wishes from network creator are there to redefine member management, events, who is online, leadership boards, reward systems and so on. Are there any plans about this features as well?

    Hi Toni,

We’re absolutely continuing to focus on Ning Apps. To clarify, Virtual Gifts aren’t an example of Ning Apps — they’re an in-house built-in feature. But the Appathon is an opportunity for developers to continue to build awesome Ning Apps and we’ll have more news about it in the coming days. Stay tuned to the Developer Network ( if you’re interested in joining in.

Those are great feature requests and we’ll post to the Ning Blog when we have an update to what we’re working on.
