Troubleshooting Firefox Add-Ons

If you’re using Firefox and you think your add-ons might be causing problems signing in to or using a social network on Ning, the best thing to do is to create a new Firefox profile without any add-ons. If you can use the social network with your new Firefox profile, you’ve successfully determined that your add-ons were causing issues.

Here’s how to create a new Firefox profile:

If you’re on a PC (Windows)

  1. Close Firefox.
  2. Open a command prompt by going to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.
  3. Paste in the following command: "\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profilemanager
  4. Click on the button entitled “Create Profile…”
  5. Click on “Next.”
  6. Name the profile if you like. We recommend “test user.”
  7. Click on “Finish.”
  8. Select your new user in the selection box and click “Start Firefox.”
  9. Test out your Ning social network.
  10. To return to your old profile, repeat steps 1 to 3 and select ‘default’ (or the old profile name if it was named) and click on “Start Firefox.”

If you’re on a Mac (OS X)

  1. Close Firefox.
  2. Open a terminal by going to Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.
  3. Paste in the following command: /Applications/firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -profilemanager
  4. Click on the button entitled “Create Profile…”
  5. Click on “Next”
  6. Name the profile if you like. We recommend “test user.”
  7. Click on “Done.”
  8. Select your new user in the selection box and click “Start Firefox.”
  9. Test out your Ning social network.
  10. To return to your old profile, repeat steps 1 to 3 and select “default”(or the old profile name if it was named) and click on “Start Firefox.”
