Activate an Add-On Feature

As the Network Creator, you can activate an add-on feature on your network by going to your dashboard and clicking on the “Add-Ons” link in the Settings section.

The price listed beside each feature is the monthly fee that your account will be charged for the corresponding feature.

Click on the “Activate Now” button to add this feature to your network. This will prompt a lightbox to pop up, informing you in more detail about what is included with this add-on feature. On the right side, you’ll see a small frame with your current payment method, showing the account that will be charged for this purchase. Please note that the payment method you currently use to pay for your network subscription will be the same method that is used to pay for your new add-on feature.

You’ll be prompted in the next lightbox to click on the “Activate Now” or “Activate” buttons to complete the purchase.

There is also a link to ”upgrade to Plus (or Pro)” in the bottom right corner of the lightbox if you would rather upgrade your plan altogether.

Add-ons are always purchased immediately: If you’re currently in a 30-day trial with your Ning Network, please note that add-ons will be charged to your credit card immediately and not at the end of your 30-day trial.

You have now successfully purchased this feature for your network.

Activated features appear at the bottom of the Add-ons list, and will also show the date when the feature was activated.

Add-ons will show up as Add-on Subscriptions in your account details on http://www.ning.com:

After you have activated your add-on, the last step is to add it to your network through the Features Layout page, so that you and your members can begin using it. Click on the “Features Layout” link to be taken to that page directly.

For more information, see: Choose the Perfect Features on Your Ning Network

Beneath each feature, you’ll see a brief description of what is included in the feature. The Add-On features are no different from features obtained through a network plan, but are offered à la carte for networks that only need that one certain feature.

Events
The Events feature is a great way to engage members and encourage participation. Events can be set up for meetings with groups within a network or for an entire network, can be used as a way of announcing activities relevant to your network, or can be used in any other way you can think of! To create events that repeat on your network, just copy your event!

Groups
The Groups feature comes equipped with pages, a discussion forum, RSS reader, text box and comment wall. It’s a great way to create specialized environments within your network for a particular aspect of your network. For example, if your network is all about the planet, then you could have individual groups for different countries. If your network is about music, you could have individual groups for different bands.

Branded Music Player
The Branded Music Player allows you and your members to add songs to the network. Each member will see a music player on their My Page, once this feature is added to the network and then to the main page layout in the Features Layout page. To further share your music with other networks or websites, you can add a watermark to brand an embedded music player with your network’s logo.

Branded Video Player
The Branded Video Player allows you and your members to upload videos directly to your network. You can upload videos that are in any of the following file formats: .mov, .mp4, .mpg, .avi, .3gp, .3g2, and .wmv. To further promote your network online, you can add a watermark to brand an embedded video player with your network’s logo.

Paid Access
The Paid Access feature allows you to charge members for access to groups or pages on your network, or to charge members for access to your network altogether. Use this to accept donations, collect a membership fee or charge for special content. Please note that this feature is not a plan-specific add-on, but can similarly be purchased and added to any network.
