One of the best ways to recognize your members is by featuring them on the front page of your network. This built-in reward system will keep members coming back, and will encourage them to contribute fresh content.
Brooklyn Art Project has taken this concept and applied it to reflect its emphasis on the visual arts. If you’re a regular visitor to the social network, you’ll notice that its header changes pretty regularly. This keeps the visual design interesting, which is one the keys to the perfect social network. But what you might have missed is that every new header is designed by a member of the network, and that member’s work gets featured front-and-center in a text box on the main page.
It’s the perfect arrangement — members power the social network with exlcusive content that shapes its visual design, and the social network rewards members with a giant spotlight. dreXel, the current Featured Banner Artist, definitely has my attention!
