Smart Girl Politics - Engage. Educate. Empower.

Throughout the month of August, Washington politicians have returned to their home states to speak to their constituents about health care at town hall meetings. The more than 10,000 members of Smart Girl Politics — a Ning Network for conservative women — are busy attending these meetings, speaking their minds and making sure their positions are heard.

A smartly embedded Google Calendar widget on the Main Page alerts members to upcoming town hall meetings in their districts. Each member is then encouraged to add a report about what she’s seen at the meetings on the Smart Girl Politics Blog. With more than 6,000 blog posts already, it’s clear that there’s a lot to see, report on and debate. Many of the recently added blog posts relate to the current healthcare debates occurring in the U.S.

Another way this Ning Network is using the Main Page is to highlight a chat that’s occurring tonight. Though Chat is always enabled on Smart Girl Politics, scheduled chats can be a great way to get lots of members in a chat room at one time and can help members meet and connect with each other.
