Customizing the prompt text on Status

The new Status feature empowers you to share information about activities with other members on your Ning Network and engage with people around those activities. While “What brings you here?” is the default prompt text for Status, you can always pick the perfect text for your Ning Network. For example, if you run a Ning Network for foodies, you might want it to prompt members to answer “What’s sizzling on your stovetop?” It’s simple to customize this text — just click the Feature Controls link from the Manage tab.

Control the privacy settings for your Ning Network

Some Network Creators want to share their social experience with the world, while others create Ning Networks just for close friends and family. To embrace these different preferences, flexible privacy settings are built in to every Ning Network.

As a Network Creator, you have many different options when it comes to the privacy of your Ning Network. To adjust the privacy settings, go to the Manage page and then click “Network Privacy”:

Manage your photos on a Ning Network

So let’s say that you’ve uploaded some photos to your Ning Network and you’re ready to add them to an album. As we noted on Tuesday, creating an album for your photos is now an easy part of the process. From the Add an Album page, you can add a title, description, location, and tags for your photos (click the image for a full screenshot):

Upload photos to your Ning Network

Photos are one of the most popular features on your social network, and the flash uploader makes it easy to upload and organize your images. When you click “Add Photos” from the Photos tab, you’ll see a page like this:

From here, click the “Click to Add Photos” icon to select which images you’d like to upload from your computer. If you want to select multiple photos at a time, just hold down the “Control” or “Command” key on your keyboard and click the extra photos. You can add up to 100 photos at a time.

4 Seconds. That’s how long you have to wow people on your Ning Network (and any other website), according to multiple studies. Any longer than that, and you’ve lost your chance to win over a new member. With such a brief window to grab someone’s attention, the last thing you want is for your Ning Network to still be loading after 4 seconds.

Upload videos with easy embedding

Videos are one of the most popular features across social networks on Ning, and there are a few different ways you can add them to your social network. You can upload original videos using the recently updated flash uploaders. Videos uploaded this way can be branded for your social network with a watermark or logo and are a great way to promote your social network on other websites.
