{"id":5517,"date":"2012-04-19T07:13:07","date_gmt":"2012-04-19T07:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/help-o.ning.com\/?p=5517"},"modified":"2019-09-04T11:52:26","modified_gmt":"2019-09-04T11:52:26","slug":"troubleshoot-video-not-uploading-or-converting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ning.com\/help\/troubleshoot-video-not-uploading-or-converting\/","title":{"rendered":"Troubleshoot Video Not Uploading or Converting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Uploading a Video<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re running into a rough patch when trying to upload your video to your Video Player, it may be due to one of these reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The plan your network is on<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Does your screen look like this when you click on the link to add a video?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5519 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ning.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/mini_plan_video-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"Troubleshoot Video Not Uploading or Converting 1\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you are on the Ning Pro plan, you can upload or embed videos to your Video Player.<\/strong> <strong>As outlined on our<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ning.com\/pricing\/\"><strong>Plans page<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> <strong>the Ning Plus and Ning Mini\u00a0plans do not include the ability to upload your own videos.<\/strong> You can still embed videos, however, and any previously uploaded videos will remain on your network. Check out our article on\u00a0<a href=\"\/help\/add-videos-to-your-ning-network\/\">adding a video to your Video Player<\/a> here.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The file format your video is in<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our platform supports videos in any of the following formats: .mov, .mp4, .mpg, .avi, .wmv, .3gp and .3g2.\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t see your video file\u2019s format here?\u00a0<a href=\"\/help\/convert-your-video-to-ipod-format-for-reliable-conversion\/\">Try converting it<\/a> with a video converter program first, and try it again!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The internet connection you are using<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Are you still waiting for your video to upload after thirty minutes?\u00a0It may be that the internet connection is\u00a0too slow. Try connecting directly to an ethernet cable rather than using wi-fi. If possible, try uploading your video file from a different computer and see if that helps. You can also try using the simple uploader to upload your video files.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5520 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ning.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/simple-uploader-600x374.jpg\" alt=\"Troubleshoot Video Not Uploading or Converting 2\" width=\"600\" height=\"374\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Converting a Video<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you find yourself stuck on this page for more than thirty minutes after you&#8217;ve successfully uploaded your video, please consider the following factors:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5521 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ning.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/stuck-on-this-screen-600x456.jpg\" alt=\"Troubleshoot Video Not Uploading or Converting 3\" width=\"600\" height=\"456\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The size and length of your video<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The video file size limit is 100MB, so check the size of your video before you upload it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>While the video file size limit is 100MB, this is the file size limit after our servers have converted it.<\/strong>\u00a0The files are converted to Flash after they are uploaded, and this conversion process automatically makes the video&#8217;s file size larger.\u00a0For this reason,\u00a0uploading videos that are\u00a0right at the limit might not work. A 100MB video file may do fine in the upload process, but die out during the conversion process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The larger factor is the length of the video.<\/strong> There is no set limit on the length of a video, but occasionally a 75MB video will upload fine, while at other times a 40MB video won&#8217;t even make it that far. Try uploading a video that is is shorter in length first. If you continue to experience difficulty uploading your video, try uploading a video under 50MB and shorter than 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>You can also upload your video externally (such as through Hulu, YouTube or Vimeo) and then embed it to your network.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5523 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ning.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/video-embed-code-600x469.jpg\" alt=\"Troubleshoot Video Not Uploading or Converting 4\" width=\"600\" height=\"469\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The embed code will have a format like the one you see here. If you are seeing something different &#8211; such as a greater width or height, or an &lt;object&gt; or &lt;embed&gt; tag &#8211; you might run into trouble with your video embed. A video in one of these tags is likely trying to create an iframe, which isn&#8217;t a supported element except from YouTube, and will prevent your video from being added to your network\u00a0successfully.<\/p>\n<div class=\"box box_pink border note_box\"> <strong>iFrames and third-party services:<\/strong> Not all iFrames will work on Ning, but these are all definitely supported: Vimeo, YouTube, IndieClick TV, Hulu, Blip.tv, Viddler, Bandcamp, Adobe, and Spotify.<\/div>\n<p><strong>Still not working?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you have read all of these troubleshooting tips and feel that your issue does not fall within these parameters,\u00a0head over to your\u00a0My Network tab and click on the &#8220;Support&#8221; link at the bottom of your dashboard. Click &#8220;Create new ticket&#8221; and provide us with the video&#8217;s size, length and\u00a0file format, as well as if you&#8217;ve previously been able to upload a video\u00a0with similar characteristics. We may ask you for your video file so that we can test it out directly. An easy way to share this with us is by using <a>rapidshare.com<\/a>.
